I had always been told that women were stronger, emotionally, than men. Yet, for a long time, I wanted somebody on whose strength I could depend. I now know from hard-earned experience that each of usm male or female, must at some point take responsibility for ourselves and our lives. That's the way it is.

The sound of the door slamming behind me in jail was different than the sound of the door on my death row cell. In jail, it was a shutting in. Death row is a shutting out.
